Green Cards

A United States Permanent Resident Card, also known as a Green card, is a proof of permanent resident status of an alien or outsider in the United States of America. A Green Card allows an alien to reside and work in the USA. Sometimes, a Green card has conditions attached which must be met and removed within prescribed time frames to maintain permanent residency. A Green Card can be obtained through many categories of applications, some of which are listed below:

  • Through Family
  • Through Job or Job Offer
  • Through Investment
  • Through Self Petition
  • Through Refugee of Asylum Status

The all encompassing Federal body that regulates and provides immigration and citizenship services is the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).

While the application for Green card is being processed, an alien can obtain two important permits: a) Employment Authorization Document (EAD). This allows the alien to work in the United States. b) Temporary travel document or Advance Parole, which allows the alien to re-enter the United States.
